disability insurance

the most complicated

Short Term Disability

Short term disability insurance is a type of insurance policy that provides financial support to individuals who are unable to work due to a temporary illness or injury. It is designed to cover a portion of an individual’s income for a short period of time, typically several weeks or months.v

long term disability

Long term disability insurance is a type of insurance policy that provides financial support to individuals who are unable to work due to a long-term illness or injury. It is designed to cover a portion of an individual’s income for an extended period of time, typically several months or years.

underwritting

For both short and long-term disability, there can be complicated underwrriting.

For employer-sponsored plans, the underwriting standard can be lower than in the individual market.

For the individual market, professional guidance should be sought, because if rejected, then it will make the even more difficult for you to seek other alternatives. A shotgun approach is, therefore, not recommended.

LOTS OF RULES

Disability insurance rules are confusing, yes.
Short-term disability, long-term disability, and Social Security Disabilityt Insurance are full of very compliciated rules and requirements.

In certain instances, you may want to hire an attorney in order handle your situation, so that you can collect the benefits according to the differrent policies and government-sponsored programs.

Choices Are Difficult To locate

Short-term disability has been historically been offered by employers as part of a benefits package. We highly recommend that employers offer disability insurance, and that if offered, that employees enroll.

Long-term disability is usually only offered to management personnel within employer-sponsored benefits. Highly-compensated professionals should definitely explore the individual market.
